Learn piano online

Learn piano online with a real teacher.

Kraga teaches live, one to one, over video. That is the difference that matters. A teacher can see your hands, correct a collapsed wrist before it becomes a habit, and slow down or speed up as you go. It is not a self-paced video course, and there is nobody to fall behind.

Lessons follow a structured curriculum, so each stage builds on the last instead of jumping between songs. The same teacher works with the student every week, keeps written practice notes, and decides when the student is ready to move up a level.

This works for complete beginners and for students who have played before, for children and for adults, and for families living outside India as well as in it. Lessons are scheduled in IST and the school teaches students across several time zones.

Who can learn

Anyone can start, at any age.

Kids

Children learn technique, reading, rhythm, repertoire, and how to practise. From around age five, with shorter 30-minute sessions for the youngest and the Keyboard for Kids entry for absolute beginners. A parent sits nearby for younger students.

Adults

Adults often start from scratch, and lessons are built around what they actually want: reading music, playing pieces they love, understanding theory, or working toward a graded exam. Flexible scheduling across time zones.

Beginners

No previous experience is needed, on piano or any other instrument. Level 1, Foundations, assumes nothing and starts with the keyboard, the hand, and the first notes.

Structured curriculum

Five levels, taught in order.

Every student moves up through the same five levels. Each level is named, and the student moves on when the teacher signs off what that level is for.

  1. Level 1

    Foundations

The starting point. Finding the keys, posture and hand shape, note names, reading both clefs, and first single-line melodies with each hand separately.

  2. Level 2

    Beginner

The hands come together. Reading from the staff, the first scales and chords, and short pieces. By the end the student is ready for a first graded exam if they want one.

  3. Level 3

    Intermediate

Graded pieces played with proper technique, more keys, chord progressions, pedalling, and the beginnings of musical expression.

  4. Level 4

    Upper Intermediate

Longer and more expressive repertoire, harder rhythms and time signatures, wider key signatures, and middle-grade pieces, with the first serious performance work.

  5. Level 5

    Advanced

The highest grades. Demanding repertoire, full technique, real interpretation, and performance preparation.

Graded exams are a separate, optional lane that runs alongside the levels, and Keyboard for Kids is an age entry for the youngest beginners rather than a level.

How it works

From enquiry to first lesson.

Exams are optional throughout. Many families use the grades as a milestone without ever entering the formal exam, and both routes are equally supported.

  1. 01

    Book a free trial

Choose a slot in the booking form. The trial is a real 30-minute lesson, not a sales call. No payment and no card.

  2. 02

    Meet the teacher

The student and teacher meet over video. The teacher watches them play, or helps them play for the first time.

  3. 03

    Assess the starting level

The teacher places the student on the ladder and explains which level they would begin at, and why.

  4. 04

    Agree the learning path

You get a clear picture of what the next few months cover before you decide anything.

  5. 05

    Begin weekly lessons

Live 1:1 lessons, the same teacher each week, with written practice notes after every session.

  6. 06

    Track progress

The student moves up a level when the teacher signs off the outcomes, so progress is visible rather than assumed.

Graded exams

Trinity and ABRSM preparation, if you want it.

Some students want a graded exam to aim at, and some do not. Exam preparation is optional and runs beside the five levels rather than replacing them. Where a student opts in, we prepare them for the board they choose, including mock exams with written feedback.

Kraga prepares students for graded exams and does not enter exams for them. Entry and fees are handled with the board directly. We make no claim of accreditation or affiliation with either board.

Questions

About online piano lessons.

Are online piano lessons suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Level 1, Foundations, assumes no experience at all. It starts with the keyboard, sitting position, hand shape, and the first notes, and takes reading one clef at a time before putting the hands together. You do not need to have played any instrument before.

Can children learn piano online?

Yes. Children learn well online when the session matches their attention span and the teacher can see their hands. We teach children from around age five, use shorter 30-minute lessons for ages five to seven, and keep the Keyboard for Kids entry open for the youngest beginners.

Are the lessons live or recorded?

Every lesson is live and one to one with the teacher over video, and the teacher watches and corrects in real time. Nothing is pre-recorded. Written practice notes go out after each lesson.

Do I need a piano or keyboard at home?

You need a digital keyboard with at least 61 full-size, touch-sensitive keys to start. An acoustic piano is not required. If you are not sure what to buy, ask after the trial class and we will recommend something for your budget and the space you have.

How often should I take piano lessons?

Once a week is the standard, with short practice sessions in between. Consistency between lessons matters more than the number of sessions, and a steady weekly slot is easier to keep than irregular ones.

How long is each lesson?

The standard lesson is 60 minutes. For younger students, aged five to seven, we offer 30-minute sessions that better match shorter attention spans. The right length is settled in the trial class.

Can I prepare for Trinity piano exams online?

Yes. Trinity preparation is an optional lane running alongside the levels, and it works online. You can see how the ladder lines up with the grades on our Trinity exam preparation page.

Can I prepare for ABRSM piano exams online?

Yes, the same way. ABRSM preparation sits beside the levels as an optional lane, and students can enter an exam when the teacher agrees they are ready rather than on a fixed schedule.

What age can a child start piano lessons?

Most children start well from around age five. Readiness matters more than a birthday: the child needs to follow simple instructions and sit with the instrument for a short session. Younger beginners use Keyboard for Kids, our entry point for the youngest students.

Can adults learn piano online?

Yes. Many of our students are adults starting from scratch or returning after years away. Lessons are built around their goals, whether that is reading music, playing particular pieces, understanding theory, or preparing for an exam.
