How preparation works
From the trial class to exam day.
Step 1
Assess your current level
In the trial class, we hear the student play and establish exactly where they are relative to the target grade. This shapes the entire preparation plan.
Step 2
Build all four elements together
Pieces, technical work, sight reading, and aural are all developed in parallel throughout the preparation period, not rushed in at the end.
Step 3
Full mock exams with written feedback
At least two full mock exams before the real one, run under conditions close to the actual exam. Written feedback on every element after each.
Step 4
Exam strategy in the final weeks
How to walk in, how to pace yourself, what to do if something goes wrong, and how to communicate with the examiner on the day.
Preparation timelines vary by grade. The trial class gives you an honest estimate for your specific situation.
Questions
About Trinity exam preparation.
What grades do you prepare students for?
All Trinity grades from Initial through Grade 8.
How many lessons before I am ready for an exam?
It depends on the grade and where you start. A beginner working toward Initial or Grade 1 from scratch typically needs a full 24-session block to be well prepared. For students already at Grade 4 targeting Grade 5, the timeline is shorter. We assess this clearly in the trial class and give you an honest estimate.
Do you run full mock exams?
Yes. We run at least one full mock exam before the actual exam, and more as needed. Mock exams are run under conditions close to the real exam. You receive written feedback on every element: pieces, technical work, sight reading, and aural tests.
Are exam entry fees included in the lesson fee?
No. Exam entry fees are paid directly to Trinity College London and are separate from lesson fees. The fees are set by Trinity and vary by grade. We will let you know the current fee when you are approaching exam entry.
How is Trinity different from ABRSM?
Both are internationally recognised boards. Trinity gives slightly more choice in the programme of study. ABRSM tends to have a stricter mark scheme and places greater emphasis on scales. Both produce a valued qualification. If you are unsure which board to choose, we can discuss it in the trial class.
$25 per session, in packs of 24 or 48.
Nothing is payable before the free trial class. Exam entry fees are paid directly to the board.
