Course for children

Keyboard Lessons Built Around How Children Actually Learn

Patient, structured, and genuinely enjoyable. A course for children aged 5 to 12 that builds real musical skills from the very first lesson, without the frustration that makes children give up.

Free 30-minute trial class. No payment, no card.

Ages 5 to 7

30-minute sessions

Shorter sessions match shorter attention spans and leave the child wanting more rather than exhausted. For children aged 8 and above, 60-minute sessions work well.

How the course begins

The first stages, in order.

First four weeks

Keys, Names, and Posture

Note names on white keys, a relaxed hand on the keyboard, sitting position, and simple five-finger songs in one hand.

Weeks 3 to 8

Reading the Treble Clef

Notes on the staff around middle C, reading simple melodies by step, and the first rhythm values with clapping and counting.

Weeks 8 to 16

Left Hand and Both Hands Together

Introducing the left hand, simple bass patterns, and coordinating both hands in beginner pieces the child actually wants to play.

When ready

The First Grade Exam, If You Want It

Trinity Initial or Grade 1 provides a clear target. It is optional, and many children work toward it without sitting the formal exam.

Every child moves at their own pace. The trial class shows where your child would start and how quickly they are likely to progress.

Questions

What parents usually ask.

What is the right age to start keyboard lessons?

Most children are ready from age 5 or 6. The main indicators are that they can sit for a short period, follow simple instructions, and show genuine interest in music. There is no upper age limit for this course; older children simply move through material more quickly.

How long are the sessions for younger children?

For children aged 5 to 7, we recommend 30-minute sessions. Shorter sessions match shorter attention spans and leave the child wanting more rather than exhausted. For children aged 8 and above, 60-minute sessions work well.

My child tried lessons before and gave up. Will this be different?

The most common reasons children give up are: lessons were too long, the music was not interesting, or progress was too slow to feel rewarding. We address all three. We work with material the child actually wants to play, we keep sessions at the right length, and we make sure every lesson ends with something the child can play confidently.

Do I need to sit with my child during the lesson?

For younger children (age 5 to 7), a parent nearby helps with focus and with following the practice notes afterwards. For older children it is not necessary, though you are welcome to listen. We send written practice notes after every session so you always know what to focus on at home.

What keyboard does my child need?

A keyboard with at least 61 keys and touch sensitivity is ideal. If you do not own one yet, do not buy anything before the trial class. We will give you a clear recommendation based on your child's age, your budget, and the space you have.

$25 per session, in packs of 24 or 48.

Nothing is payable before the free trial class. Exam entry fees are paid directly to the board.
