Exam Boards
Trinity vs ABRSM Piano Exams
Both are respected, globally recognised piano exam boards. The right one depends on your goals, your child's learning style, and how much structure you want. Here is the plain-English comparison.
Trinity College London
- Grades Initial through 8, plus diplomas
- Choice in supporting tests (spoken, improv, or keyboard knowledge)
- Performance-focused, flexible programme
- Recognised by schools and universities worldwide
ABRSM
- Grades 1 through 8, plus ARSM and diplomas
- Fixed aural tests at every grade
- Grade 5 theory required before Grade 6
- The largest exam board by global reach
Which should you choose?
Pick Trinity if you want more choice in the supporting tests and a flexible, performance-led path. Pick ABRSM if you want the most widely known board and are comfortable with a fixed aural component and the Grade 5 theory requirement. Many Kraga students start with either and the skills transfer fully, so the bigger decision is simply to begin.
